The Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) Career Cluster focuses on the essential elements of life-food, water, land, and air. The career cluster includes a diverse spectrum of occupations, ranging from farmer, rancher, and veterinarian to geologist, land conservationist, and florist. It also includes non-traditional agricultural occupations like wind energy, solar energy, and oil and gas production.

Animal Science Program of Study courses offered:  

  • Principles of AFNR

  • Equine Science
  • Livestock Production
  • Practicum in AFNR  
  • Advanced Animal Science (dual credit)

 

Applied Agricultural Engineering Program of Study courses offered:  

  • Principles of AFNR
  • Agricultural Mechanics and Metal Technologies
  • Agricultural Structures Design and Fabrications
  • Agricultural Power Systems
  • Practicum in AFNR

 

Environmental and Natural Resources courses offered:

  • Principles of AFNR 
  • Wildlife, Fisheries, and Ecology Management
  • Forestry and Woodlands Ecosystems
  • Practicum in AFNR

New Boston High School AFNR courses prepare students for careers in welding, mechanics, environmental and agricultural engineering, and environmental science.

 

Miss Kayla Ratcliff

Kayla Ratcliff graduated from Southern Arkansas University in 2021 with a bachelors of science in Agriculture Education. She has been teaching for 3 years. When Kayla is not spending time with her students, she enjoys reading, spending time with her dogs, and going to Texas Rangers Games. 

Fun Fact: She is a NBHS Alumni!

Mr. David Volle’s Bio

David Volle aged sixty-six was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He is one of seven children.
David graduated from West Allegheny High School and Parkway West Vocational with a Diploma and Apprenticeship Plumbers License. In 1978 he joined the Air Force as a plumber serving in Korea and Montana. After discharge in 1982 he moved back to his childhood area and worked as a plumber while remaining in the Army reserves. In 1988 he was activated as a combat engineer and served 4 years active stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC, participating in Desert Storm and Desert Shield. In1992 he was discharged from active duty and pursued a career as a long-haul truck driver owning his own tractor trailer. Was activated by the military in 2001 and served on active duty until 2004 and once again in 2007-2008.
Remaining on active duty in the Army and retiring in 2017. Attended Savannah Technical College receiving certificates in Basic SMAW, Advanced SMAW, GMAW, Master Welder and Diploma in Welding and Joining in 2021. Attended Texarkana College receiving certificate in Construction Technology in 2024.

The Volle’s are at home in Nash, TX, moving there in 2022.
